PC Magazine has a review up of the the new 10-inch ASUS Eee PC 1000HE, the successor to the 1000H (E stands for extended battery) and it does so well at everything for a low price it is the new PC Magazine’s Editor’s Choice.

The biggest news is that it comes with the new N280 Atom processor at a slightly faster 1.66GHz speed but that seems to be a slight let-down as during day to day usage there’s no noticeable improvement over the original Atom N270 1.6GHz processor.

Key points of the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE from the review:

* Comes with new N280 1.66GHz processor
* Support for faster 667 MHz RAM (up from 533 MHz)
* One of the heavier 10-inch netbooks
* New improved 6-cell 63 Wh battery that’s flush with the bottom and doesn’t protrude.
* Battery capacity is higher than that of the Samsung NC10’s 58 Wh 6-cell battery
* Up to 46 mins more battery life than the Samsung NC10
* Improved iMac chiclet style keyboard 92-93% of full sized keyboard

The 10-inch Acer Aspire One D150 gets more battery life than the 1000HE but it doesn’t have a butt-ugly battery sticking out the back and this keyboard has to be superior than what looks like a 9-inch keyboard stuck on a 10-inch chassis on the D150.

The 1000HE is not out yet, but you can preorder it at Amazon for $374 with free shipping, or at JR.com for $365 with free shipping.
